Are you passionate about democracy, civic engagement, and making a meaningful impact on your community and beyond? If so, volunteering for the League of Women Voters of Arkansas (LWVAR) might be the perfect way for you to channel your enthusiasm for positive change.

Founded in 1920, the LWV has a rich history of empowering citizens and advocating for better communities worldwide. But what are we working on now, and how can you get involved? Let’s explore.

What is the LWVAR Working on Now?

LWVAR is a dynamic force actively addressing current issues. Here are some of our critical areas of focus:

  • Fighting Voter Suppression In Arkansas.: Ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast their ballot is a top priority.
  • Getting Big Money Out of Politics: Limiting the influence of SuperPACs and secret donors in politics is crucial to protecting our representative democracy.
  • Fighting Against Partisan & Racial Redistricting: We are committed to fair and non-partisan redistricting, combatting gerrymandering and ensuring that every citizen’s vote counts.
  • Working Towards Restoring the Voting Rights Act: Recent challenges to the Voting Rights Act have raised concerns about voter discrimination. With the LWVUS taking the lead, LWVAR is also working to restore and strengthen this vital piece of legislation.
  • Defending Direct Democracy: LWVAR has taken a lead and in partnership on statewide citizen-initiated ballot referendums in Arkansas, the people rule.
