Save AR Democracy along with the state and local leagues are proud to announce the endorsement of the Respect Voters Coalition for our proposed constitutional amendment to safeguard and strengthen direct democracy in Arkansas.
“We’re proud that Arkansas is leading the nation in direct democracy protection and reform, and the endorsement of the Respect Voters Coalition reflects the broad base of support for our amendment from other grassroots coalitions dedicated to the same mission: protecting the citizen initiative process,” said Bonnie Miller, chair of Save AR Democracy.
The proposed amendment aims to restore Arkansans’ constitutional right to direct democracy by preventing legislative interference, streamlining legal reviews, and simplifying the petition process while ensuring that the fundamental rights of the amendment are subject to strict scrutiny by the courts in order to be valid. Save AR Democracy believes these reforms are essential to ensuring Arkansans can continue to bring issues directly to the ballot without unnecessary obstacles.
“The Respect Voters Coalition is proud to endorse Save AR Democracy,” said Katie Fahey, Respect Voters Coalition Steering Committee Member. “Arkansas is doing what every state needs to be doing: standing up for its citizens’ First Amendment rights to petition. We look forward to supporting Save AR Democracy in the coming months.”
Lesley Graybeal, Treasurer of Save AR Democracy, added, “Our volunteers are eager to get to work in communities, doing what we do best— nonpartisan education and action to empower voters across Arkansas.”
Save AR Democracy is finalizing its petition for submission to the Secretary of State and will begin training canvassers to collect signatures very soon.
